The Southern Model Air Show 2008

Well what a weekend at the Southern Model Airshow 2007, great fun was had by all and all of our members and friends had a story to tell by Sunday night and the journey home.

This year we went for a bit of a different format with Figure of 8 racing on the Saturday and The usual Crazy BIG AIR and freestyle on the Sunday.

Saturday the sun was shining and our fierce band of competitors awoke to see what we had created for them a massive figure of 8 circuit complete with a jump for the crossover.
The races began with no categories, all of the cars be it large scale, Buggy, Truggy Or Truck pitched against each other with the survivor at the end of the day some great racing happened with the winner being crowned SMAS Champ 2007. Roger Sutcliffe made it away with a rather nice trophy and the title for 2007.

After a rather well entertained Saturday evening our group of intrepid (slightly hung over) drivers made their way into the arena for the freestyle comp. For this we planned to employ some of the audience to score the attempts of the drivers to stun them with their Ariel abilities the 2 monster freestyle jumps were set up and groups of 4 drivers went over the jumps in turn to get their scores from the great and helpful children we asked to take part by acting as judges.
After some GREAT jumps and some rather painful (for the owners) crashes the winner was crowned.
Glyn Jones was crowned the 2007 Freestyle champion of the Southern Model Airshow 2007 as decided by the public.

Well to close the show in our own style we wanted to jump something Last year was an Astra van and this year we wanted BIGGER. Neil from Sundon Models kindly lent us his Ford transit van. We all had a go and most cleared it there was a few sticky moments where we thought Neil may have air conditioning on the way home but it all went great and that capped off a BRILLIANT 2007 show for us we can't wait till 2008.
